Do you ever hear a story that sounds so realistic you can’t help but wonder if it’s actually true? This is the kind of the thought you’d get when reading peoples stories about their experiences with “The Rake”. Myth has it that “The Rake” is a creature that watches you while you sleep and kills you when you awake.
In the summer of 2003, strange events in the northeastern United States involving a bizarre humanlike creature triggered social media. Shortly after written stories were posted online they were mysteriously destroyed, hardly any information was left. Coincidence? I think not.
Although evidence was destroyed, the victims still had a sturdy memory. Witnesses told their stories of these interesting yet disturbing encounters with this creature. In 2006 nearly 24 documents had been collected dated from the 12th century to this present day. In all the cases the stories were really identical. An example is a suicide letter from 1964. “For once I awoke and felt his presence and once I awoke I saw his form. I cannot sleep without fear of what I might next awake to experience. I cannot ever awake– goodbye.” Also, one of the witnesses’ stated their daughter screeched for help in the middle of the night. When she came to her daughters rescue she noticed she was injured. Her last words for her short life were, “He is the Rake.” Of course no one actually knows if this is true. Is “The Rake” a myth, legend, or an actual creature all of us should be cautious for when going to bed? That’s for you decide.
