Colton culture a mixture–just like America

The world is filled with a variety of different cultures. But here at Colton High School we have some from just about anywhere, from Samoan islanders to African Americans and Latinos. There are many students who will proudly tell you who they are and where they are from but sadly there are students that won’t want to or even think to learn about their past.

They usually respond by saying that they’re one hundred percent American, what is pretty much impossible, because all the settlers came from different countries to America when it was first being settled. So it’s inevitable to have other cultures in you. It’s just you either never thought about it or never bothered to even find out.

You can find out by asking your elders or doing some research on your own. The internet has many sites that will help you with this process of finding out who you really are and where your ancestors came from so you can tell your children if they ever want to know. One popular site, ancestry.com, charges a registration fee, but that gets you access to tons of historical records you can search.

Everyone should look up their past. You could find some pretty cool stuff about you that you didn’t know. Who knows– your family could have been royalty.

Our Goal

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
