Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Sept. 2
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
With the Cross-Country SWARM event set to go tomorrow, let’s look back at one of Colton High’s greatest runners.
Senior Ted Smith was a part of the 1975 track team. Ted competed in 100-yard dash, 200-yard dash, and was a part of the 4×400 relay team. During an important meet against San Bernardino High, while nursing a wounded knee that required multiple stitches, Smith placed second in the 200-yard dash and helped secure victory as the first leg of the relay race. Ted Smith was called a superstar for setting a new school record in the 100-yard dash of 9.8 seconds.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
Elizabeth Pablo is currently a freshman at Colton High School. When she's not writing for the Pepper Bough, she's reading books by Colleen Hoover.
