Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Sept. 1
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
For years, the rumor about a pool atop the McIntosh Gym has been a source of Colton High myth and amusement. Some say it’s true, some want to debunk the rumor and kill the fun for the upperclassman, and others have tried to exploit the myth by selling tickets.
Sadly, there is no swimming pool at CHS. However, there was supposed to be one.
In 1975, the Colton City Council set aside $265,000 to build a pool on campus grounds. The planning was to take four to six months, and construction would have started at the end of summer 1975. The pool should have been completed and ready before the start of second semester—and swim season—for the 1976-1977 school year.
Strangely, it is now 2022-2023 and there’s still no pool. Except in the imaginations of Colton alumni.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
