Colton High “Fact of the Day” – May 17
The 2014 Pepper Bough Staff took 1st place from the American Scholastic Association’s annual newspaper contest.
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
In May 2014, the Pepper Bough won first place in the annual American Scholastic Press Association Scholastic Newspaper Awards. This was their sixth first place finish in seven years, and a return to the top spot after slipping to second place in 2013.
“I feel we got back to our home, where we belong,” said Pepper Bough adviser David Rainey. “When Editor-in-Chief Jeremy Valadez took the helm this year, he pledged one thing: to get a first place award. And he did it! Of course, with the help of a fantastic, hard working staff.”
The CHS Publications department is dedicated to covering all things Colton High. Like all of our organizations, we have needs, from site maintenance ($500 annually) to equipment (cameras, microphones, video cameras) to spirit gear (t-shirts, press passes). Please consider donating. Every little bit helps support good journalism in Colton.
