Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Apr. 11

The CHS Drama department put on the “Schoolhouse Rocks!” musical in March 2012.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

The Colton High Drama department staged the elaborate, family-friendly musical “Schoolhouse Rocks!” in March 2012. The production, produced and directed by Ms. Jan Aldrich, was a stage recreation of the classic 1970s animated TV series that taught a generation of children about valuable academic lessons through goofy, groovy, songs.

The cast sang many of the most popular songs from the television series, including “Verb: That’s What’s Happenin’,” “Three is a Magic Number,” “Sufferin’ Til Suffrage,” and “Mother Necessity.” Solos were taken by Adrian Fernandez, who sang “I’m Just a Bill,” Marco Yanas on “The Tale of Mr. Morton,” and Leilani Douglas on three numbers: “Figure Eight,” “Interplanet Janet,” and “Elbow Room.”

The Pepper Bough article, written by Desiree Zamora, reported that the crowd was heard “murmuring the words to themselves and even dancing in their chairs a bit.” Despite the years that had passed between the show’s TV run and the musical performance, it’s obvious that several people in this community were still connecting with “Conjunction Junction.”
