Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Mar. 9
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
In 1952, basketball head coach Tom Morrow and his varsity team won the Citrus Belt League title. To get the title, varsity won a double overtime game versus Pomona, then another against Riverside Poly. In the Poly game, Colton trailed by 11 with only five minutes to play, but they put together a run to take the title.
At the game vs. Pomona, Carmelina De Loura was announced as the 1952 varsity basketball queen. Her court included Roy Cook, Wayne Jackson, Tex Drummond, and Ray Paschke. Cook, team captain, placed the crown atop De Loura’s head.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
