Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Feb. 24

Ernest Cisneros was ecstatic to win election as the 1984-85 ASB president for Colton High.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

Ernest Cisneros has had a long career in local politics. The Colton City Councilman for District 2 was elected ASB president at CHS all the way back in 1984.

There were only two candidates for ASB president, Cisneros and fellow junior Arthur Hernandez. “I knew it would be tough to beat my opponent,” Cisneros said, “but I campaigned very hard.”

Humble in defeat, Hernandez commented, “I feel Ernest will do a great job. Although the thought of losing hurt for a while, I’m glad to have other activities where I can continue my leadership qualities.”

Cisneros, who was also the National Honor Society president, had much support from his teachers at the time. ”My parents supported me the most, but my friends were very helpful.”

Also winning student leadership elections that year were Charles Sierra for vice-president, Jackie Flores for Inter-Club Council president, Julie Morris for ASB secretary, and Rita Alcantar for ASB treasurer.
