Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Feb. 16
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
In January 1952, students in the CHS public speaking class participated in an annual Student Congress event in San Bernardino. Student Congress is a competitive event in which teams formulate policy and debate real world issues in a parliamentary law setting and structure. Colton’s team debated issues surrounding agriculture.
Colton student Ann Hammargren served as the Chairman of the House of Representatives, and Marvin Loustaunau led the Senate committee. Others participating were Jim Chernault, Richard Puterbaugh, Calvin Good, Johnny Kelly, Cecelia Kowaleski, Eleanor Starr, Jimmy Missey, Eloy Duran, and Josephine Reeves.
George Morse served as adviser for the group.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
