Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Feb. 15
Helena “Pat” Tarbaux taught and counseled at CHS from 1970-1999.
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
Helena “Pat” Tarbaux, 91, passed away due to complications of stroke on January 20, 2022. She was a beloved member of the Colton High staff from 1970-1999 as a biology teacher and a counselor.
In 1993, Tarbaux experienced one of great achievements as an educator when 70 students she advised in the National Junior Honors Society were inducted into the National Honors Society. Tarbaux was the advisor of NJHS for 18 years up to that point. Students were selected based on their scholarship (holding a GPA of 3.0 or higher), leadership, service, and overall character.
After retiring from education, Tarbaux remained local, living in Rialto. She was dedicated to her family, friends, and church.
The CHS Publications department is dedicated to covering all things Colton High. Like all of our organizations, we have needs, from site maintenance ($500 annually) to equipment (cameras, microphones, video cameras) to spirit gear (t-shirts, press passes). Please consider donating. Every little bit helps support good journalism in Colton.
