Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Jan. 19

The 1932 Colton High School backfield.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

In 1932, on Armistice Day—still celebrated in France, but is now Veteran’s Day here in the U.S.—the Colton football team faced off against their traditional rivals San Bernardino High School and had an even match throughout the game. Within the first few minutes of play Colton scored a touchdown. San Bernardino threatened to score in the second, but couldn’t quite put together a run. According to the Pepper Bough, San Bernardino “put up a stubborn fight.”

Colton won the game, 6-0.
