Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Jan. 18
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
In 1954, the construction of the Whitmer Auditorium was underway. According to Larry Minear, whose construction company was hired to complete the job, it was a fairly uneventful endeavor. However, as the auditorium was being constructed, one of the construction team actually fell in a hole on the job.
Minear informed the Pepper Bough that the auditorium was estimated to be finished on June 1st, 1954. With an area of nearly 4,000 square feet and the capacity to seat 1,200, it cost half a million dollars to build. The materials used to build the auditorium were concrete and steel.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
