Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Nov. 23
Eugene LaPlante was a world-renowned art teacher at CHS from 1961-1989. Here he is in 1987.
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
1982’s Crimson & Gold is dedicated to Eugene R.A LaPlante, designer of Colton High’s iconic Yogi. He served Colton High School from 1961 to 1989 as an art teacher. He was also the advisor of the Art Club.
LaPlante got his degree from the Boston Conservatory of Music. After earning his degree, he traveled through the United States, singing and performing in operas and musicals. One of his joys was painting. He created paintings all over the world, including one of the Vatican gardens for the Pope.
The CHS Publications department is dedicated to covering all things Colton High. Like all of our organizations, we have needs, from site maintenance ($500 annually) to equipment (cameras, microphones, video cameras) to spirit gear (t-shirts, press passes). Please consider donating. Every little bit helps support good journalism in Colton.
