Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Nov. 12

Charles Jordan served as CHS Principal from 1963-1970. Here he is receiving a celebratory hug from the 1964 Homecoming Queen.
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
Charles Jordan, nicknamed “Rocky” by his friends and colleagues, served at Colton High School from 1953-1977, first as a social science and English teacher, then as Principal.
Rocky became Principal at Colton High in 1963, a position he held until 1970, when he was promoted to district Director of Personnel. He instituted Colton High’s first Dean’s Honor Roll program, which awarded students who maintained a B-average or above with well-deserved recognition. The student received both a letter and a certificate of award. He made sure a list of the honored students appeared in the local newspapers.
The CHS Publications department is dedicated to covering all things Colton High. Like all of our organizations, we have needs, from site maintenance ($500 annually) to equipment (cameras, microphones, video cameras) to spirit gear (t-shirts, press passes). Please consider donating. Every little bit helps support good journalism in Colton.

Jicell Gutierrez Urenda is a freshman at Colton High School. She writes for the Pepper Bough.
