Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Nov. 3
Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.
The 2014 Crimson & Gold was dedicated to Deborah Zeller
Ms. Zeller, who passed away shortly before the start of the 2013-14 school year, started teaching mathematics at Colton High in 1987. She was a member of Mensa International, an organization for individuals who score in the top 2 percent on an approved intelligence test.
Originally, Ms. Zeller’s teaching credential was not in maths; it was for teaching social science. She added mathematics as a supplemental credential after her decision to leave a Master’s program in history because of her frustration with the ways in which history was “written by the winners” and how that made it too difficult to get an authentic account.
According to the Crimson & Gold’s tribute to Ms. Zeller, “to see a child finally unlock the understanding necessary in the critical early levels of Algebra brought Zeller lasting satisfaction. It’s the students in the early levels, who may be taking the same subject again, that need the most help. Deborah Zeller wanted to be that help.”
Overall, Ms. Zeller was a great maths teacher whose students still remember her.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
