Colton High “Fact of the Day” – Oct. 14

Colton no longer offers Driver’s Ed courses, like the one started in 1942, but it still provides students the opportunity to learn car maintenance in the ROP Auto Shop.

Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

In 1942, for the first time, Colton High School offered its students voluntary five-week “behind the wheel” driving courses to members of the sophomore class. Students learned car maintenance, including changing tires and checking oil, while training in a dual-controlled 1942 Pontiac station wagon that had been gifted to the school after being discharged by the marines.
