Colton High School opened in 1895. It is one of the oldest high schools in the Inland Empire. In this daily feature, we celebrate Colton High’s rich history.

In November 1957, Colton High’s football team played its first game in Memorial Stadium, defeating Artesia High 42-0. The stadium’s original design seated 4,000 fans, and featured a snack bar, rest rooms, home and visiting team shower-locker rooms, a press box, a public address system, facilities for radio broadcast, telephone connections, and an electronic scoreboard. The scoreboard was installed by the Colton High welding shop class.

Prior to the opening of Memorial Stadium, the Yellowjackets played their home games at the Orange Show in San Bernardino.
