Chainsaw Main – The Movie: Reze Arc is an animated masterpiece. Having perfect song choices to make the scenes feel more impactful, adapting the manga well and the movie has even become the second highest grossing animated movie of 2025 having an 98% rating from both critics and audiences on rotten tomatoes.

The movie stars its main character Denji and his struggle with love, believed to have found true love with the antagonist Makima and the main love interest Reze, but in reality he is only being used by them, which forces him to come to terms with the fact that everyone is after his chainsaw heart but not his own.

Something that helps tell this story are the song choices, perfectly captivating the emotion of the scene and even following the story perfectly to the point where these songs are able to tell the story themselves. 

Two of the songs in the movie mirror each other being “in the pool” and “in the ocean” by Kensuke ushio, both having no words but perfectly depicting the raw emotion of freedom and then the falling action of the movie.

Another song choice that further makes the movie better is “Ires out” also by kensuke Ushio. This song when seen from the perspective of denji it gives us a clear look into the conflicted feelings he has throughout the movie and lets the viewer see his internal struggle. 

The pacing of the movie is also amazing. The first act of the movie is portrayed as soft light hearted fun showing Denji’s laid back approach to life and the reset of the movie is action packed which in turn shifts to the reality of Denji’s life always being chaotic.

And the icing on this cake is the animation. When comparing the animation with the source material in the manga the adaptation to animation is near perfection. 

There was inclusion of specific panels from the manga that really focus on the emotion in scenes, may it be happiness, freedom, without much to any alteration from the manga. Two key scenes are the pool scene and the denji riding bean scene.

It also doesn’t feel unnatural being animated, the scenes that they improvised to add extra layers to the movie didn’t feel unnecessary, adapting the fights with the bomb devil and typhoon devil in a way that made the fight longer without making it feel bloated.

All of these qualities come together to make the movie amazing and a must watch for those who want to experience a movie that tackles hard topics of true love and false love while also being action packed but not taking away from the message in the slightest.
