Game Review – Ghost of Tsushima

Game Review - Ghost of Tsushima

David Sanchez, Reporter

Ghost of Tsushima  is a pretty fun game and very pretty. If you like samurai then you will definitely want to play this game. If you want a game that is solely story driven then this game is also a pretty good fit. The story of Ghost of Tsushima is a good one that tackles the honor of a samurai and the responsibility of trying to save your people from war. The gameplay was very fun and at times was difficult but always manageable. I never encountered a huge difficulty spike except for the bosses. They were very hard, but once you learn their moves and combos the gameplay becomes easy.

Exploring the world can benefit you in many ways; giving you more slots for upgrades, giving you more resolve which heals you, or allows you to pull off powerful moves. One of my favorite things to do in the game was ride on my horse and look for fox dens. Once you find one they lead you to a fox shrine where you can pray to it. Once you find enough, the game upgrades you on how many charms you can carry – which can give helpful buffs like stealth increase or heals you on enemy kills. I personally wasn’t after the upgrades though, something else you can do is pet the fox once you pray, and the foxes were just so adorable and made cute noises.

The combat is the main focus of the game. The combat system revolves around swift strikes, heavy strikes, parrying, blocking, and dodges. Once you master all of those you will be able to breeze through the game – but those mechanics are easy to understand and perform but are very hard to master. There are some more things to learn and master but you learn those throughout the game. Killing and observing bosses can give you new stances to use that are extremely useful for a certain enemy. There are four stances in total stone, water, wind, and moon. Stone is the one you start with and is extremely strong against sword users while water absolutely destroys those tricky shield users. If you like big open world sword fighting games this one is a must play for you.
