Persona 5 Game Review

Persona 5 Game Review

David Sanchez

Persona 5 royal is a PS4 jrpg (a Japanese role playing game), a remastered version of the popular Persona 5. In Persona 5 you play as a highschool student with the ability to change the hearts of others by going into their subconscious and defeating their palace, aka their dungeons. As the game progresses you unlock companions to help along on the journey and make things easier for you. Persona 5 can be described as a turn based game very similar to pokemon with its combat but way different in between the battles.

It’s also a hybrid of a social simulation game where you can hang out with the friends you make and they give you special abilities to help in the combat like the ability to catch higher level personas (the things you battle with). The game can be very challenging to complete for newer players especially if you don’t have much time because on average your first playthrough can take up to 100 hours. Half of that time is combat while the other half is trying to balance your social life and your time so you don’t run out of days to complete the main objective.

With the basics out of the way, let’s move on to what royal adds to the game since its a remaster. 100% without a doubt royal is better than the base game, it adds one more dungeon to the original six, it also adds new songs to the already amazing soundtrack and more personas to catch and fight with.

It fixes a lot of the tiny issues people had with the original like skills being useless or certain characters giving close to no benefits when you hang out with them. But most importantly it adds 2 new characters and expands on one of the fan favorite characters. Royal also adds little things to do like playing darts and cards with your friends in the phantom thieves (the group you make in game). If you want a story driven game I highly recommend persona 5 Royal if you haven’t played it already.
