Something Exciting is Happening in the 2018 Grammy Nominations

Ryelee Mergil, Reporter

For the first time in Grammy history no white male solo artists were nominated for album of the year. On November 27, 2017 the Grammy nominations were revealed and it looks like the system heard the public’s complaints. Considering how dominant Black artists were in music this year, social media is enjoying how diverse the nominees are! There is Cardi B representing for the Afro-Latinas and a plethora of black singers. Rappers such as LilUziVert, SZA and Childish Gambino have also been nominated; just to name a few. To get more into it…Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Bruno Mars, and Lorde are apart of history today as well. They are all nominated for the AOY title and for the first time in 58 years, there is no white male solo artist nominated for AOY. The last time this ever happened was in 1999.
