Chancelor Bennet (aka Chance the Rapper) is coming up in a big way. Not even 21 yet, he’s already touring with some legends of music and breaking the walls of modern day hip-hop.
Chance lived in Chicago and attended Jones College Prep High. He listened to soul music, until the day he listened to one of Kanye West’s greatest albums, College Drop Out. With Kanye’s flow and rhyme still in his head he then formed a rap duo with one of his peers from school. The young rapper’s first mix tape, 10 day, was inspired by a 10-day suspension from one of his teachers. 10 day was downloaded over 50,000 times.
Chance was nominated for XXL’s 2013 “freshman class.” He was featured in the complex magazine’s “10 new Chicago rappers to watch out for.” Acid Tape debuted at #63 on the Billboard top hip-hop albums. This 20 year old rookie performed at Lollapalooza; he’s getting big in a good way. His style is so different no one can touch it–will you give him a chance?
