Lana Del Rey is a successful songwriter and model. She was born as Elizabeth Woolridge Grant on June 21, 1986, in New York City. Del Rey is the child of a domain investor Rob Grant. She was raised in Lake Placid, New York. At the age of fourteen, she was sent to Kent School, a boarding school to deal with her alcoholic dependence. At age eighteen Del Rey attended Fordham University in New York to study a branch of philosophy known as metaphysics. She was also known as Lizzy Grant, Lana Del Ray, Lana Rey Del Mar, May Jailer, and Sparkle Jump Rope Queenher. But she is mostly known and goes by Lana Del Rey. Settling on that name, the singer claims she selected the name because it was so beautiful. She’s a singer, songwriter, and also a fashion model. She’s recently got her clothing line with the fashion store H&M.
Elizabeth’s instruments are her beautiful, talented voice, and in addition she plays the guitar, which her uncle taught her. That’s when Del Rey realized that she could write countless songs with only six chords. Elizabeth began to perform in Brooklyn clubs at the age of eighteen and signed her first record at the age of twenty-one. Lana Del Rey’s first album Lana Del Rey A.k.a. Lizzy Grant was released in January of 2010. She then signed to Stranger Records for her debut single “Videogames.” She later posted a Youtube video, which became a viral internet hit. She states “I just put that song online a few months ago because it was my favorite. To be honest, it wasn’t going to be the single but people have really responded to it.” Then later she received A Q Award for the Next Big Thing and an Ivor Novello for Best Contemporary Song in October 2011. On January 4, 2012, it was reported she had signed a deal with NEXT MODEL Management agency.
Del Rey’s music has been noted as cinematic sounds. The singer described herself as a self “gangsta” of Nancy Sinatra.
