“Project Hail Mary” is one of the biggest surprises of 2026. The original science fiction film has currently grossed $329 million in the U.S. and $657 million worldwide, creating memes, a renewed interest in science and space exploration, and the feeling that Hollywood might be ever so slightly shifting away from stale sequels and IP by embracing exciting, original ideas.
