Coming back and loving California more than ever, Best Coast will be releasing their new album The Only Place on May 15. The long awaited sophomore album has promised to not disappoint. Almost two years later it seems like Bethany had a sudden boost of confidence in her vocals, hence adding a little more pizzazz to their tracks. Bruno and Consentin work to keep similar mind sets in their duos, thus releasing their inner California. They don’t have the fuzz in the music, but they still have the surf rock you would expect from Best Coast. The song writing style and being recorded in a professional studio resulted in a slightly different feel for the album. The music overall hasn’t changed, as the lyrics are still simple, straight forward, and universally relatable.

There is no doubt that The Only Place is bound to make an impact. Anxious fans would be satisfied with Bethany’s new found ecstatic vocals. “The Only Place” starts the album off very cheery with a sense of home in beautiful California. Bringing the soothing sound of her life back, “My Life” will leave a reminiscent feeling of the band’s last album Last Year. “No One Like You” captures the emotion of being in the absence of a loved one that escalates into a perfect blend of music. “Better Girl” and “Do You Love Me Like You Used To” keep the album steady with mellowing the already calm album.”Dreaming My Life Away” enhances the band’s new sound. “Let’s Go Home” exposes her thundering voice as it flows like ocean waves. The album ends with “Up All Night” which leaves the listener satisfied and looking forward to another album.
