Colton, CA—The season ended for Colton girls’ soccer on Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss to the Grand Terrace Titans in the Sunkist league tournament.
This game marked the third time the Yellowjackets faced the Titans this season. The tournament provides an opportunity for league teams to determine standings and earn CIF playoff bids. The match against Grand Terrace was to determine fifth place in the league.
Prior to this loss, the Yellowjackets defeated Grand Terrace in their previous matches this season. They defeated the Titans 1-0 on Dec. 16 in Colton, and 2-1 on Jan. 13 in Grand Terrace.
This game was once again a back-and-forth match, much closer than indicated by the final score.
Near the end of the first half, the Titans scored their first goal on a Yellowjacket defensive mistake.
Freshman Jizelle Salinas was back as goalkeeper after being out for a couple weeks with an injury. She kept the game close, allowing no goals throughout the second half, until late in the second half, when the Titan scored their second goal to seal the victory.
Girls soccer finishes the season in fifth place, which drops them to the San Andreas league next season. Despite this, the team experienced a strong season, finishing 8-4-5 overall. This leaves them with a chance to qualify for the CIF southern section playoffs. Bracket announcements will take place on Feb. 7.
