Rialto, CA—After a rocky start to the season, the Yellowjackets are on track. On Thursday night, they won their fourth straight game against Eisenhower, 46-38.
This was their first league game of the season, putting them at 1-o and 7-4 overall.
“Today’s game went great,” said head coach Keisha Young. “Probably not the best when it comes to defense. However, we did pull out the win, and this was our first league game for the season, and now we’re one-and-oh, so I’m happy.”
Overall this was a good week for the Yellowjackets, as they beat Bloomington on the road Monday, 38-18, then beat Tahquitz at home, 45-41.
The Yellowjackets jumped on the Eagles in the first quarter, holding Eisenhower scoreless. Alejandra Flores came up with multiple steals to lead the Yellowjacket attack.
“I am very proud of my team, we worked hard and played well together,” said Naomi Ontiveros. “I love the defense and how everybody played a part in the game.”
Eisenhower fought back in the second quarter, and the teams traded baskets. Colton went into the half up 25-16.
After the half, Colton struggled in the third quarter, with Eisenhower closing the gap, and pulling within four points, 36-32.
Colton woke up in the fourth quarter and the final stretch was close, with Colton clinging to a one point lead during the final three minutes. But they pulled away late, and went home with the win.
“It went really well,” said center Mia Guerrero. “But I feel like we could have played a little bit harder.”
Colton’s next game is a league matchup at home on Dec. 16 against Arroyo Valley. Game time is 4:00 p.m. for JV, 5:30 p.m. for varsity. Tickets are available on GoFans.
