Fontana, CA—Colton football put on an offensive show Friday night as they travelled to Jurupa Hills, but defensive struggles kept them from earning a win against the Spartans, losing 22-29.
Colton’s offense clicked as quarterback Koa Regalado found Kalvin Leon twice for touchdowns. Isaiah Garcia picked up his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.
Regalado finished the game with 129 yards throwing and 76 yards rushing. Leon caught four passes for 74 yards. Garcia rushed for 67 yards on seven carries.
Despite the offensive success, according to head coach Ray Rodriguez “Poor tackling and blown assignments on the defensive side of the ball” led to the team’s third loss of the season.
As for Rodriguez himself, he reflected on doing a better job, emphasizing the importance of correcting those mistakes.
“As a team we are putting ourselves in good positions at times, but we aren’t capitalizing on them enough to pull out the win,” he said.
With the loss, this Colton is now 3-3 on the season, heading into their bye week. Their focus will be on getting healthy and tightening the screws on their defense. They will need to, because after the bye, they will have a huge test for Homecoming against crosstown rivals Grand Terrace on Oct. 9.
