Hemet & Rialto, CA—The Yellowjackets struggled with tough opponents Tahquitz and Carter as they went 0-2 last week and lost their first league game.
Volleyball vs. Carter – Sep. 11
Colton and Carter High were nothing but fierce and unrelenting in the first league game, going 2-3, Colton was just shy of taking home a victory.
The first set was strong where Colton held a lead and used it to push through, going 25-18. The second set was where Carter was more prepared and ready, they took the set and Volleyball lost 20-25.
The third set was where the Yellowjackets really shook up Carter, as they played carefully and with grace, winning it 25-12. Colton and Carter scuffled for the fourth set, but Carter was just slightly ahead and Colton lost the set 23-25.
The final set was intense, Volleyball climbed and strived for every shot, every save, giving their all, but it was just too much, Carter took the final set 17-15.
“I feel like today’s game (Carter), we just had a little bit of a few uncontrollable circumstances that kind of made us shift our whole lineup last minute,” head coach Blanca Asenscio explained. “They performed way, way, way better than I thought they would, and I’m proud of them for that.”
Volleyball vs. Tahquitz – Sep. 9
Tahquitz was a tough opponent for Colton. Last year Tahquitz won 7 matches and this year has 6 victories thus far, showing the difficulty of taking them on.
The first set was a hard battle, the Yellowjackets went 16-25 and Tahquitz was prepared for everything Colton threw at them. Similarly Colton’s second set went 15-25, because of confusion on the court, and miscommunication.
As Volleyball’s final show of strength, finishing off with all of their might, Volleyball lost with a dignified 18-25 third and final set.
“Tahquitz is definitely like, way higher caliber than we expected again.” Coach Asenscio states. “But we always kind of go in the games knowing, like, it doesn’t matter what their rank is”
Colton may have taken a few losses, but Volleyball will be back on Sep 16, going against Fontana High at 5:30 p.m.
Note: JV won 2-0 against the Carter Lions, and lost 0-2 against Tahquitz.
