Colton, CA—Last season feels best forgotten, especially for this year’s Yellowjacket volleyball team. Finishing 2-18 (0-6 in league play), the only place to go is up.
This season began with a matchup against Canyon Springs, who had a successful 2024 season, winning the Inland Valley league title with a 9-1 league record (18-10 overall). Last year, when the two faced each other in Moreno Valley, the Cougars swept the Yellowjackets in straight sets, winning 3-0.
This year’s game ended with the same result, a heartbreaking 3-0 loss for the Yellowjackets. However, unlike last year, the Yellowjackets were feistier, pushing the Cougars.
In the first set, Colton got an early lead, but Canyon Springs were able to keep it close and finished strong, taking the set 25-23. Miscues in the second set upset the Yellowjacket momentum, and they lost 25-19. And in the final set, Canyon Springs took advantage of a tired group, and dominated 25-8.
Despite the disappointing loss, Colton will not have time to think too much about it as today they travel to Pacific High to take on the Pirates. Game time is 4:00 p.m. for JV, 5:15 p.m. for varsity.
Notes: JV played their first game of the season and lost to Canyon Springs 2-1.
