Basketball season is back. Already 3-0 heading into tomorrow’s game against Desert Hot Springs, the Yellowjackets have a bright season ahead with more experienced players, a new JV coach and new team’s goals.
Older roster
Most of last season’s starters were underclassmen who faced difficulty playing against more experienced, senior teams. Coming into this year they are looking more organized and experienced than before, which is more likely to help the Yellowjackets succeed in taking the Skyline League title.
Coach Kendrick Ayres shared that during their off season, “The players have gotten more experienced and challenged themselves to get better.”
New varsity players
The varsity team has received a few new additions to their roster; these are 2 of the 5 new players.
One new player, Johnerik Renteria says “I feel excited, from not getting minutes on JV to starting and being moved up to varsity.” johnerik adds another layer of intensity to the court being able to be efficient on both sides of the ball
Colton Kagarise, another new addition to the varsity team says “I’m happy, excited and blessed with the opportunity to play at the varsity level.” colton plays the power forward spot and adds another shooter to the team who also has the ability to drive in and score when needed
New JV Coach
A big change to the coaching staff was the addition of a new coach, Kearnan Lopez.
Lopez is a former basketball player who had four years of high school basketball and played a season of college basketball. Sadly, his college career was cut short due to injury.
Coach Kearnan has many goals for his team, including guiding the team to a winning season.
