Seniors shine in Senior Night victory over Rim of the World

Varsity baseball celebrates its five graduating seniors, then puts another W in the win column as they finish their regular season schedule and gear up for round 1 of the CIF playoffs

Colton, CA—Varsity baseball got contributions from across their lineup as they beat Rim of the World for the second time in three games, 12-3, on Friday.

Julian Rocha went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, and Isaac Bustillos went 2-for-3 with a double in the victory. Starting pitcher Andrew Montes pitched a complete game.

The result of this one was never in doubt after Colton put up four runs in the first inning. Azael Hernandez got the inning going with a ground-rule double, followed by Rocha’s first hit of a game, another double that drove Hernandez and Montes home for the Yellowjacket’s first two runs. A walk to Steven Aguayo set up Andy Navarrete’s 2-run double, and Colton never looked back.

Before the game, the team honored its five graduating seniors with a Senior Night ceremony. The players emerged from the Yogi tunnel with their parents as their accomplishments on and off the diamond were shared, and gifts were given by coaches. This year’s seniors include: Gabriel Aparicio, Isaac Bustillos, Andrew Montes, Andy Navarrete, and Julian Rocha.

Colton finishes its regular season schedule 8-4, second place in the San Andreas league. They will find out today the schedule for this week’s round 1 CIF playoff matchup.
