The competitive cheer team gets the crowd at AB Miller fired up with their strong performance at the annual Cheer Showcase.

Fontana, CA—The rain is often associated with depression and sadness, but on the evening of January 14, as torrential rains showered the Inland Empire, the gymnasium at AB Miller High rocked with positivity at the 5th annual Cheer Showcase.

Both of Colton’s cheer teams, the competition and spirit squad, performed at the event. Each team performed twice, with the competition team getting much needed practice as they gear up for a CIF Regional competition on January 21.

The competition team last performed at the SHARP Competition in December. As they performed at AB Miller, it was clear they have polished their routine and made dramatic improvements. One of their newest freshman shared, “It was really fun and organized, and it came out really good.”

In addition to Colton’s performance, AB Miller’s cheer squads also performed their routines to the delight of their home crowd.

Monique Gutierrez, AB Miller’s head coach, said that they have been hosting this showcase for five years, and hope to keep the tradition alive. She also expressed that she was glad Colton was able to make it to the showcase considering neighboring schools couldn’t.

As the event was coming to a close AB Miller recognized all of the seniors and gave them a farewell gift. This included Colton’s seniors Denise Diaz, Jazmine Retamal, and Natalie Villarreal. They thanked them for what they brought to their teams with hope that they have amazing years ahead of them.

Now the competition squad will put the finishing touches on their routine in preparation for this weekend’s CIF Southern Section Traditional Competitive Cheer Championships. Their performance time is 1:55 p.m.

The event will take place on Saturday, January 21 at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside. Tickets are on sale through GoFan, with the cost at $12 for adults, $5 for students with school ID, and $5 for children between 5-13 years of age. There will be a $5 parking fee at King High.
