Grand Terrace, CA—With eight players missing due to either injury, illness, or out of town for the upcoming winter break, Colton High’s girls soccer team struggled against the Grand Terrace Titans on Monday night in a 2-0 road loss.

Several JV players were upgraded to varsity for the game. The Titans took advantage of the inexperience, maintaining possession of the ball throughout much of the game, and putting pressure on the Yellowjacket defense.

The Yellowjackets were led on the defense by goalkeeper Joleena Silberman, who despite giving up two goals, frustrated Grand Terrace with 9 saves.

Grand Terrace’s Jordyn Johnson scored early in the fifth minute as the Titans started off with an aggressive attack. Colton’s defense settled down and focused afterwards, with strong play by Katelynn De La Torre, Cambria Duran, and Paola Soto staying in front of the Titan forwards.

In the second half, Colton’s Tiffany Abril and Laura Yanez put pressure on the Titan defense with multiple fast break opportunities. The Titans showed off their speed to disrupt the attack.

The game’s final goal came late in the second half by Titan Leila Pardo to put the game out of reach for Colton.

With the loss, the Yellowjackets record drops to 3-1-1 on the season. San Andreas league play begins tonight with a home match against the 0-8-1 Kaiser Cats. Game time is 5:30 p.m at Memorial Stadium.
