Colton, CA—Following a tough loss on the road against Western Christian, today the Colton Yellowjackets played Riverside Prep looking for some home cooking. What they got was a very close game that ended with Riverside Prep taking a 47-46 victory.

Devin Torrez, senior point guard, led the Yellowjackets with 18 points. Patrick Angulo added 8, and Isaiah Stuart contributed 6 in the loss.

Torrez was frustrated by the victory, but not defeated. “It’s a tough loss, but we’re not going to hang our heads down over it.” He was glad his team stayed in the game with Prep despite losing by one point.

“We played a good game,” Isaiah Stuart said. “We played our parts. We just slipped up on a few things that could have led us to winning the game.”

Colton came out slow in the first quarter, and Prep jumped on the opportunity, seizing an early 13-8 lead. But Torrez stuck back in the second, scoring nine, and pulling Colton within 4 at the half, 27-23.

During the third quarter Colton came out tough with a strong defensive effort, cutting Prep’s lead to three, 36-33. Momentum stalled heading into the fourth quarter when an injury to a Colton player shook up the team and stopped the game for 20 minutes.

Coach Kendrick Ayres was a little disappointed about the outcome, but also knows his team played their best. ”It comes down to consistency and tonight is a true token of that.”

Colton will open up Skyline League play against San Gorgonio High on December 14th at 5:30 in the Hubbs.
