Lia Tovar gets her teammates involved with this pass into the low post during the third quarter against Entrepreneur on Nov. 18.

Colton, CA—With a balanced attack, the Lady Yellowjackets continued their winning ways, improving to 3-0 on the season with another blowout victory over Entrepreneur, 56-21.

Ten Lady Yellowjackets put points on the board in this game, and on defense they stayed locked in all game, holding the Panthers to no more than 7 points in a single quarter.

“We communicate as a team,” said Savannah Govea, who led Colton with 14 points. “I feel like we’re doing really good this season with just talking to each other and helping each other out.”

Govea, who thought she had an “off-game” with several missed opportunities to finish at the rim, made up for a poor shooting performance by getting her teammates more involved and being a constant disruptive force on the defensive end. She finished with 8 steals.

Other notable scorers included shooting guard Lia Tovar, who finished with 9 points, including 7 in the first quarter that put the Yellowjackets ahead after a slow start. Zoe Espino, never shy about putting up threes, scored 8 points with two exciting threes to extend the Yellowjacket’s lead in the second quarter.

On the defensive end, Madison Prieto and Zoe Nunez continued to use their long wingspans to frustrate guards looking to swing the basketball around the perimeter. Their deflections resulted in several Entrepreneur turnover that ensured the Panthers were never able to find their footing in the game.

“We have great team chemistry,” said shooting guard Lia Tovar. “We know how to play with each other.”

The Panthers were led by junior point guard Maliyah Cornish, who finished with 7 points.
