Colton shakes off slow start to dominate Entrepreneur for third win of the season
Devin Torrez, Patrick Angulo, and Isaiah Stuart lead the team in the 75-38 blowout victory
It was another great win for the boys basketball team to start off the season, defeating the Entrepreneur Panthers in another blow out game, 75-38.
Senior point guard Devin Torrez led the Yellowjackets with 22 points, 13 in the second half. Isaiah Stuart scored 15 points. Patrick Angulo contributed 10 points.
Head Coach Kendrick Ayres felt good with the team’s performance despite their slow start in the first quarter. ”We got off to a slow start. Sometimes it’s good for us to kind of settle and understand we need to be patient with the game,” he said before adding, ”We had a really big push towards the end of the first through the second quarter that I was really happy.”
With that slow start, it was unclear if the Yellowjackets had finally met their match. Entrepreneur went up with an early 8-2 lead. Then Patrick Angulo knocked down a nice three pointer, and a great driving layup from Devin Torrez got Colton back in the game. They ended the quarter up 11-8.
Colton took complete control of the game in the second quarter, extending their lead as Angulo, Torrez, and Ryan Sanchez kept draining shots. Colton scored 29 points in the second to end the half with a dominant 40-19 lead.
The team made sure not to come out as sluggish in the second half as they did the first quarter, and put up another 20 points as Torrez dropped 8 more.
Freshman Isaiah Stuart finished his second consecutive excellent outing with a strong stat line of with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. However he has his eyes on the bigger picture already. “The job it’s still not finished,” he said, “and we have stuff to work on and we’re going to get better from this point on.”
After the Thanksgiving holiday, Colton will play at home against Lucerne Valley on November 30th. Game time is 5:30pm.
