Colton blows out Palmdale Academy to pick up back-to-back wins to open season
A balanced wing attack proves too hard to stop for the visiting Jaguars as Colton improves to 2-0 on the season
Colton, CA—Following the win against Desert Mirage on Tuesday, the Colton boys basketball team came out today and earned their second win of the season in a lopsided game against the Palmdale Academy Jaguars, 75-39.
Senior point guard Devin Torrez led all players with 19 points, 14 in the first half. Isaiah Stuart also scored 19 points. Patrick Angulo added 14 points.
Head Coach Kendrick Ayres felt good with how the team performed tonight. “Two games in a row, back-to-back wins, carrying success over for today,” he said. “We see Patrick scoring the ball, we see Devin leading as point guard, and the energy of all the boys brought today also stood out.”
The outcome of the game was never in question, as the Yellowjackets jumped all over the Jaguars from the opening tip-off. Patrick Angulo and Devin Torrez hit back-to-back threes to take the early lead. Palmdale evened things up, but Colton kept a lead at 16-13 going into the second quarter.
The game turned towards the Yellowjackets in the second, with both Angulo and Ryan Sanchez knocking down key threes to blow the game open. Colton put up 19 points with four threes to go into the half up 35-19.
Palmdale had no answers in the second half. Colton scored 33 points in the third quarter as their defense exposed Palmdale’s timid guards for several fast break opportunities. By the fourth, Colton pulled its starters and let the game play out in garbage time.
Angulo, new to the team this season, loves playing with this team, complimenting them after the game. “They’re really aggressive and move the ball,” he said. “I think we did really good.”
This Friday the Yellowjackets will play Entrepreneur at the Hubbs. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
