Cross-Country nears season finish line with solid showing at third league meet
Brianna Jimenez and Christopher Acero continued their strong performances on the season; and the Girl’s Varsity placed third overall
Rialto, CA—Yesterday, October 11th Colton’s Cross-Country team made their way out to Jerry Eaves Park in Rialto to run their final League Meet before Finals on October 29th.
Despite none of the runners setting personal records in this meet, Coach Roxanne Lopez remained excited and optimistic as the season nears its final lap. “We’re going to continue training for a strong finish at our home course for league finals.”
The league meet was pushed up a day due to safety concerns involving the availability of an athletic trainer. Eisenhower was able to provide the athletic trainer for Tuesday, and the meet was able to start with no issues. Temperatures, which have been an issue all season, were moderate, and the course a walk in the park.
With the three-lap course around the park, Colton’s runners showed out. Standout varsity runner Brianna Jimenenz continued her excellent season, coming in 7th with a time of 22:51. Senior Diana Vera (23:21.2) and sophomore Diana Ruvalcaba (23:58.7) followed seconds later, placing 9th and 11th, placing Colton’s varsity girls 3rd overall.
Colton’s varsity boys continued pacing themselves. Christopher Acero placed 7th, running with a time of 18:59.9. The rest of the boys followed, with Senior Daniel Montez leading the pack with a time of 22:22.0.
“We still have some work to do,” Coach Lopez said. “We have three Colton girls in the top 11. Christopher moved up to seventh place yesterday—which was a huge win for him.”
