Hailey Dubon and Jasmin Almazan play in perfect tandem against their opponents from Carter High on Sept. 23.

Colton, CA—This last week, the Yellowjacket’s girls’ tennis team has been on a tear. They defeated both Notre Dame and Grand Terrace in convincing fashion, taking advantage of their home heavy schedule. Friday, they were home again to take on Carter, and the result was the same: an outstanding 14-4 victory.

The victory puts the Yellowjackets at 3-4 overall on the season. They are currently 1-1 in Sunkist League play.

The first singles sets kicked off with Shantel Marentes, Emily Ramirez, and Kimberly Emilio. The infamous three won 7 of their possible 9 sets, giving the deciding advantage to Colton.

Emily Ramirez shared her progress within the matches: “I’m doing really good, I’m on a streak right now.”

The doubles started off with Valeria Pech/Hazel Ramirez, Jasmine Almazan/Hailey Dubon, and Ashley Galvan/Cecilia Flores. Galvan and Flores won straight sets against Carter.

The Yellowjackets took the victory, 14-4, the team growing more than ever.

During the heatwave, the team made tremendous strides, and hopefully that stride will remain for the next game on the 28th at Eisenhower, their first road match in a month.
