Ladies tennis overcome by Summit, 6-12
Final preseason match ends with loss, but team shows competitive fire
Colton, CA—After missing two weeks of competition due to weather issues, the Yellowjackets tennis team finally took to the courts yesterday against Summit High for their final preseason match. The final score had Summit winning 12-6, but the outcome was hardly lopsided.
The team started off with Team captain Shantel Marentes, Emily Ramirez, and Kimberly Emilio for singles. Then Jasmin Almazan with Natalie Diaz, Ashley Galvan with Katia Razo, and Hazel Macias with Cecilia Flores for doubles.
In this match, the singles side had the greatest success, with Shantel Marentes and Emily Ramirez taking 2 of their 3 games. Kimberly Emilio also added a win. For the doubles, Jasmin Almanzan and Natalie Diaz also won a set.
As the game progressed there were many different forwards and fallbacks. Sets went long, as players fought for advantage. “Most of our sets went into deuce,” said Emily Diaz.
However, Summit still took the lead and the win. It was possible that even though last week’s heatwave was over, the heat still had lingering effects on the team’s play.
“I feel like I could win. I’m not struggling right now, it’s just hot,” said Emily Ramirez, who took home a point for Colton High.
Colton will return to their home courts on Friday for their first league match against Notre Dame High School. The match starts at 3:15 p.m.
Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
