Colton fans will not be able to cheer for their Yellowjackets at home against Big Bear this season; the game was rescheduled for Sept. 21 in Big Bear.

Colton, CA—Today, the Colton and Big Bear athletic departments agreed to reschedule the football game between the two teams on Thursday, September 22 at 7:00 p.m. The rescheduling was expected, but what wasn’t expected was a change of venue. The game will be played at Big Bear High School instead of Colton High.

This change in venue was not the intention of either Big Bear or Colton High School, but that is just how it played out. Transportation issues as a result of the Radford fire, in addition to referee availability, resulted in the need for a change of schedule and location.

The change in the game’s location means that Colton will only have four home games for the 2022 season. Big Bear has already confirmed they will play Colton in 2023, so the Yellowjackets will have 6 home games next season to balance out the schedule.

Originally the varsity game was canceled, and set for rescheduling due to Big Bear High being used as an evacuation center for residents in the area as the Radford Fire threatened to destroy homes in the community.

Now the Radford Fire is 79% contained and evacuation warnings were lifted yesterday September 12, according to the National Wildfire Coordination Group.

The junior varsity game against Big Bear was also canceled. The JV team will still play its scheduled game against Rosamond High School on September 21 at Colton High’s Memorial Stadium.

This Friday, Colton will still take home field against the San Bernardino Cardinals. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
