Elena Torrero beats the throw back to the plate after a wild pitch opens the door to her run in the third inning.

Colton, CA—This one came down to the wire.

Back at home after dropping a non-league game against Orange Vista, Colton faced their first league matchup against Bloomington High. The Bruins came into Colton looking to even their league record after losing to San Gorgonio on March 18. With San Andreas League positioning on the line, these two teams were primed for a neck-in-neck battle.

Colton came out on top, 2-1 in seven innings.

Zerena Acevedo pitched a strong game, giving up the Bruins’ only run, two hits, and striking out seven. She was pulled midway through the fourth inning as Bloomington mounted a comeback, and Nalyn Hull came in to strike out three more and keep the Bruins off the scoreboard.

Offensively, Colton got seven hits, with Acevedo going 2-3, Elena Torrero hitting 2-2, and Giuliana Danovaro hitting 1-2. Torrero scored the team’s first run in the third on a wild pitch, and Danovaro drove in Hull in the fourth on a double.

Colton travels to San Gorgonio High on Thursday to take on the Spartans in a big divisional match.
