Colton, CA—After dropping a heartbreaking 1-0 match against Coachella Valley to open the season, the Colton High School Yellowjacket varsity soccer team returned home to Memorial Stadium last night and evened their record by defeating the Desert Mirage Rams, 3-1.

Senior forward Ghael Razo led the Yellowjackets with two of the team’s three goals, dribbling between Ram’s defenders to score in both the first and second halves. Sophomore Tristan Mondragon also scored.

Mondragon scored the Yellowjacket’s first goal on an exciting assist from senior Christopher Vallin at the 10 minute mark of the first half. Shortly after, Razo tore through the defense for the team’s second goal, and the Yellowjackets never looked back.

The Rams scored their goal on a cross that bounced in off the goal post during the first half, trying to close the gap to 2-1. After halftime, though, they were limited to a single shot on goal, and Razo’s second score of the game clinched the victory.

After the game, senior Jose Ruvalcaba was proud of his teammates. “We play like family. We play together as one.”

Colton looks to climb above .500 when it travels to Upland High School next week on December 6 to play the Highlanders.
