Swim team looks to get the word out

Colton High School has a variety of sports for students to play but one of them has been long forgotten and is waiting to make its big comeback. The Colton High swim team has been one of the forgotten sports and mostly because there isn’t any word being put out that there is a swim team for students to join.

The swim team has been around for while now but most students at Colton High don’t even know there’s a swim team. Head coach Elise Thomas thinks it’s time to make a change and bring this team back to its former glory. Thomas has been the coach for the swim team for two years and has been a little disappointed with the students’ interest in joining the team. She wants to show students that swimming can be a very fun and enjoyable sport.

Thomas is very passionate about this sport and wants to put out the word to join the swim team. There only about 15 people currently on the team where as other schools have about 30 people on the team. Both the team and coach are working hard to make more students want to join and make it a great team. They are currently making posters and announcing information about joining the team.

Colton High swim starts in the spring but Thomas wants to get a head start on training and conditioning the swimmers during the winter. One problem for the swimmers here at Colton High is that the school doesn’t have a pool for the swimmers to practice in. Swimmers have to resort to practicing at community centers and other schools, like at Grand Terrace High and Rialto High. The school board is currently pushing to build a pool here at Colton High for the swimmers to practice in. If more students join the swim team they could make this pool happen. How cool would it be to have a swimming pool for not only the swim team but the students at Colton High? The swim team will also be in the homecoming parade on Tuesday, October 6th. So look out for that CHS swim team float and spread the word about the joining the team.
