Colton faces off against new rival Grand Terrace in Tennis match

Tuesday, September 18th  was a historical moment for both Colton High School and the new Grand Terrace High School: the first athletic event (in this case, a tennis match) against each other. The Colton tennis team had the privilege to be the first of any school sport to play against GT. I must say this was a match that many were anxious and curious about. Knowing that you would be playing against some of your prior schoolmates (friends) can be exciting but at the same time scary; it was indeed an emotional match.

Before every tennis match the players are introduced to each other; they greet each other with handshakes, and rules are established. But this time, hugs were exchanged between the GT players and CHS Coach Urban. Before beginning the tennis match, the CHS girls had a cheer they sung that a few of the GT girls remembered with joy as they watched the CHS tennis team perform. The CHS girls also watched the GT girls sing their new cheer at their new high school.

Then the match was begun in earnest, and the CHS girls were told by Coach Urban to put the emotions away and play, not to take the emotion onto the tennis courts. Girl’s tennis did just that and played just how they had been told. The Colton High School Tennis team got its victory against GT for the first time ever.

Recently, the CHS Publications Department experienced a major theft as over $20,000 in photography equipment was stolen from our studio over Spring Break. This included all cameras. Any amount you donate will help rebuild our program. Thank you!
