Congress may end the American Dream for DACA recipients, and thats not just sad, its horrifying

Hundreds of thousands of “Dreamers” are living their worst nightmares, as President Trump revealed plans to get rid of DACA on September 5, 2017.

DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which was a program that allowed minors that came to the U.S. illegally with a two-year period of deferred action from being deported and being able to get workers permit. The people protected under DACA were known as “Dreamers.” But Dreamers are living in uncertainty as President Trump gives Congress six months to come up with a solution. DACA was an executive policy decision made by our former President Barack Obama back in 2012.

Dreamers are meant to have the chance to live the “American Dream”, to learn and be able to live the better lives than their parents wished for them. DACA provided Dreamers a work permit, which also allows them to receive social security. Many Dreamers are very hard working individuals in our country, but they are being betrayed by a government that gave them this opportunity in the first place. This will not stop them from doing everything and more in their power to stay. Dreamers have done so much for this country, so how does the government expect them to just throw away everything they built for themselves. If worse comes to worse though, Dreamers could eventually end up being deported to countries they may not know be familiar with. I could only imagine what it would be like to know that there a possibility that my life that I have built here could be taken away from me at the hands of people that have never experienced what dreamers families have sacrificed their lives for their children’s lives to be better.

All of this from one man that told Congress “to get ready to do your job” as if you’re supposed to be working against Congress when you are the president. Former President Barack Obama stated, “It is self-defeating – because they want to start new businesses, staff our labs, serve our military and otherwise contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel.”

I could not agree more. DACA minors and Dreamers are not here to cause problems and try to ruin this country because this is their country too. What would DACA minors be able to do, they are just minors and they want an education. Why would they jeopardize their education and not to mention their families lives in the U.S. too? They wouldn’t because they know what it means to be here for their families.

Everyone deserves the chance to live out the best lives they can. No one should be able to just take that away from someone. Their lives are just as valuable as anyone else’s and they should be able to decide for themselves how they live, not because someone decides to force them and their family out of the country they know and love.
