On Sept. 14, SBVC is hosting their first annual “Black to School Night” to provide resources to incoming Black students.

San Bernardino, CA—Tomorrow night at San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC), the CJUSD African-American Political Action Committee, in partnership with the San Bernardino Community College District’s Black Faculty and Staff Association and the Valley College chapter of Umoja Community, will host “Black to School Night” at Valley College’s auditorium from 6-8 p.m.

CJUSD is offering busing to and from the event. Students interested in going on the bus must submit a permission slip. Permission slips can be picked up in the counseling office.

The event is designed to showcase the array of offerings for Black students at Valley College, from the academic to the cultural. According to Keenan Giles, EOAP counselor at SBVC, “The intent is to strengthen the relationship between the campus community, the student demographic, our K-12 partners, and the community at large, as we work to exemplify Valley College being ‘The Community’s College.’”

The event will introduce future SBVC students to current faculty and staff as well as academic programs and resources available to support their post-secondary education with an “emphasis on Special Programs that target that demographic (and their families).”
