Colton, CA—After being pushed back a week, MAPS testing is coming to CHS on Aug. 20.
Due to technical issues with test rosters, the test, which was originally scheduled for Aug. 13 and 20, has been reduced to one day. MAPS will be administered on one day instead of the usual two.
Typically, students are assessed in reading, math, language and science. For this administration, however, they will only take the reading and math tests.
Before the day comes, students need to know some crucial information about testing schedules and other important things.

On Aug. 20, students will begin their day in their 1st period classes for a short 30-minute advisory. Then they will go to 2nd period for their reading test, and finish the day in 3rd period for math.
All students will still have a 30 minute lunch, held between the two testing sessions.
Make-up testing for absent students will take place on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21-22. Students who need to make up a test will be called out of class by administration.
Assistant principal Daniel Checo shared the following information regarding MAPS testing:
- The MAPS test is taken three times each school year in mathematics, reading, language usage, and science.
- The test is computer-adaptive, allowing it to change according to student response; it collects data from student responses.
- The test brings benefits to both teachers and students and is taken in over 50,000 schools globally.
- For students, they can identify their strengths and see which areas they struggle in.
- Teachers can use this data as well to update their teaching to help students grow in areas of struggle.
- Parents will also receive student progress reports after every testing period with explanations of what their students’ score means.
- NWEA (NorthWest Evaluation Association) is in charge of creating the MAPS testing.
The second round of MAPS testing will be held in November.
