Colton, CA—As the curtains closed on the Whitmer Auditorium stage, cheers and whistles fill the room for Colton High’s Acting classes and Drama Club’s last performances on May 18, 2025.
What was originally intended to be a sole performance by the Drama Club, they ended up experiencing a series of issues which led the club advisor and acting teacher Sarah Hantuli to make a change.
Hantuli said, “Unfortunately, the theater program wasn’t strong enough because our actors kept dropping out from the larger play. So for those who were really committed we decided to do a shorter play and include it with the acting classes finals,” she continued, “Even though the acting class is of our beginner level. I think having the Drama Club be the last performance kind of showed how talent can be progressed.”
The performance bill was titled “A Collection of One Acts” and featured three one-act plays. The first two were performed by students in Hantuli’s acting classes: “Peter Pan” by Jennifer Reif, and “The Wizard of Oz” by Tim Reid. The final act was “A Weekend Mystery” by Sara Feinberg, performed by the Drama Club.
The plays were free, starting at 6 p.m. with each act spanning from 30-40 minutes. In the front of the auditorium you could also purchase snacks and drinks to support the Drama Club.
Junior Camila Hernandez, who will be the Drama Club’s President for 2025-26 with current President Ja’len Terry graduatingm, said, “I’m sad because of the people that are leaving, but happy knowing that next year I’m gonna be President. I’m kind of excited for the new year, but I’m gonna miss my President Ja’len.”
With the 204-2025 school year coming to a close, “A Collection of Acts” was a way for Seniors to wrap up the year with their final performances, and for other students to enjoy a night of laughter and cheer.
